About me

  • Hélder Pereira has a BSc in Applied Biology and a MSc in Plant Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Bioentrepreneurship from the School of Sciences of University of Minho, Portugal.
Hélder pursued and completed his PhD in Health Sciences with the thesis entitled "The role of cell signalling during yeast chronological lifespan" at the School of Medicine, University of Minho. His research focused on the yeast model organism applied to a Health Sciences perspective in order to study ageing and age-related diseases (namely Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative illnesses), the role of autophagy, protein homeostasis and secretion of extracellular vesicles as a mechanism of intercellular communication.
Hélder was dedicated to a project at Universidade Católica Portuguesa to develop new solutions and innovative products from yeast of industrial processes and optimize yeast fermentation to design clean, efficient synthesis of many compounds.
Currently, Hélder is pursuing postdoctoral studies at Karolinska Institutet on the lab of Professor Nico Dantuma. His research focuses on the role of proteostasis inhibition as a therapeutic target against cancer, on several cell lines.
