Hedvig Engberg

I am an adjunct lecturer and associate professor at Karolinska Institutet and a senior consultant in Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at Karolinska University Hospital.

The core of my research is to improve care, treatment, and long-term health for women experiencing menstrual loss due to relative energy deficiency (functional hypothalamic amenorrhea), primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), and congenital variations in sex development (DSD).

In my dissertation, I explored the psychiatric and psychological aspects of DSD, aiming to deepen understanding and thereby create better conditions for individualized care and support.

I am responsible for the obstetrics and gynecology module in semester 10 of the Medical Program.
