Eric Emanuelsson

Eric Emanuelsson is an exercise physiologist with a PhD from Karolinska Institutet. He defended his doctoral thesis, Skeletal Muscle and Adipose Tissue Omics and Phenotypes: A Comparison of Highly Trained and Untrained Men and Women, in 2025. Read the Thesis.

Eric's research tries to understand and descrbe the physiological and molecular adaptations across organs (i.e. skeletal muscle, adipose tissue and blood) to regular exercise training in highly trained athletes, in healthy untrained individuals and in various patient groups, with a special focus on sex-differences, and how these relates to athletic performance, health and disease.

In his thesis, Eric investigated the long-term physiological and molecular adaptations to regular exercise training and the acute response (the first 3h following exercise) following a single bout of exericse in highly endurance- or strength trained athletes that had performed exercise regularly over at least 15 years, and in previously untrained males and females.
