About me

Bertil Hamberger trained as a medical doctor at Karolinska Institutet, where he received his PhD in 1967. He has worked at Karolinska University Hospital since 1979 – since 1986 as Chief Physician and Professor. He is active in a group of surgeons who specialise in and conduct research in endocrine surgery. Bertil Hamberger's own research has a particular focus on tumours and diseases of the adrenal glands and thyroid gland. Bertil Hamberger has been Professor Emeritus since 2007.

Between 1986 and 1996, Bertil Hamberger was operations manager for the surgical clinic at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna. He has also been a member of the Medical Faculty Committee at Karolinska Institutet 1991-1993, chairman of the Research Committee at Karolinska University Hospital 1991-1999, chairman of the Swedish Surgical Association 1996-1999 and member of the Nobel Assembly 1987-2007. Bertil Hamberger was elected president of the European Association for Endocrine Surgery in 2006.
