About me

  • Arun Selvam is a researcher at Karolinska Institutet with a focus on translational oncology and redox-based cancer therapy. His work bridges enzymology, molecular biology, and systems-level analyses to understand how selenium compounds, particularly Se-methylselenocysteine (MSC), can be harnessed for targeted therapy in hepatopancreatobiliary and pancreatic cancers. He has contributed to key publications on KYAT1 enzyme modulation, selenium metabolism, and omics-driven cancer research, and is actively engaged in developing innovative therapeutic strategies through enzyme engineering, transcriptomics, and ex vivo patient tissue models.

Research

  • My research focuses on selenium-based redox therapy in cancer, particularly the metabolism of Se-methylselenocysteine (MSC) and the role of KYAT1 in therapeutic modulation. I am interested in integrating enzymology, transcriptomics, and ex vivo patient models to uncover tumor-specific vulnerabilities in hepatopancreatobiliary and pancreatic cancers. In addition, I explore innovative approaches such as lipid nanoparticle (LNP)  mediated mRNA delivery, affibody-based targeting, and cancer-specific microRNAs to develop new strategies for targeted therapy and personalized medicine.
