About me

  • I am an obstetrician and a researcher at Dep Women's and Children's Health (KBH), KI. I work as a senior consultant at the delivery unit at Karolinska
University Hospital, Stockholm. I defended my thesis "Endothelin and Nitric oxide in the Fetoplacental Circulation" in June 2004.

Research

  • My research encompasses several areas of clinical obstetrics. I focus among other areas on fetoplacental circulation and the impact of the timing of umbilical cord clamping on maternal and neonatal outcomes, as well as the resuscitation of asphyxiated newborns following caesarean birth while maintaining an intact umbilical cord. Within this project, I am the principal supervisor of a PhD student.

I also study the development of chronic pain related to pregnancy and childbirth. In this field, I have supervised a PhD student who has completed her doctoral degree, and we continue to collaborate on ongoing research.

In addition to my research projects in Sweden, I am also one of the project leads in Tanzania, where we are reintroducing vacuum-assisted birth as an alternative to caesarean section in the second stage of labour, with the aim of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. Within this project, I supervise a PhD student and collaborate with other researchers on both quantitative and qualitative studies of the implementation process.
