Anna Löf Granström

I am a clinical researcher/pediatric surgeon working at Karolinska University Hospital at the Pediatric Surgery Department/ Department for Women’s and Children’s Health at Karolinska Institutet.

I defended my thesis "Aspects of Hirschsprung's Disease" in 2016 at KI. After my dissertation I was a post-doc in Ulf O Gustafson’s group in a research project on microbiota and inflammatory bowel diseases, a project called "KOLBIBAKT". I became an associated professor in 2023 have since then mostly focused my research on congenital malformation of the gastrointestinal tract and long-term consequences.

At the time, I am supervising three PhD-students as a main supervisor and five as a co-supervisor.

The best thing about clinical research is that time with the children and their families make me think of new possible research questions and my research time brings me new collaborations and knowledge which makes me a better clinician.

My main research interest has always been Hirschsprung’s Disease but now I have several collaborations within in diagnosis as omphalocele, gastroschisis, anorectal malformations, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, groin hernia and global pediatric surgery. My research methods are both register based studies as well as clinical follow up/cross-sectional studies at our centre, nationally or internationally. Since my post-doc, gut microbiota is also one of my reserach interests.
