Portrait of Professor Kerstin Tham
Kerstin Tham - Professor of Occupational Therapy at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society since 2009
Each year, between 25,000 and 30,000 people in Sweden are affected by stroke, caused by either haemorrhage or a blood clot in the brain. The mean age of those affected is 75 years. Most patients survive, but are often left with some form of disability. The symptoms can often be alleviated if medical help is available at an early stage. Kerstin Tham's research studies the consequences of cognitive disability in the everyday life of patients, and how therapeutic components in the surroundings and activities can contribute to rehabilitation after a stroke.
