Portrait of professor Azita Emami
Azita Emami - Professor of Nursing at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society since 2010.
Our socio-cultural values, i.e. our social and cultural framework, affect our prospects of good health just as much as our gender, upbringing and education etc. This means much more than ethnic group alone.
Research has to widen its perspective of what defines an individual, otherwise there is a risk of stereotyping and categorising people by their ethnicity, says Azita Emami. Her work has helped to attract increasing attention within nursing research into these individual characteristics.
