How to identify and characterise uncertainties in EFSA’s chemical scientific assessments
E-learning modules are available September 13, 2021 to October 13, 2021.
Webinar is on October 25, 2021 at 15-17 CET
The course is for members of EFSA’s Scientific Committee/Panels, their working groups, members of the EFSA Networks, and EFSA staff.
This course will provide training for EFSA staff and experts on the use of EFSA’s Guidance on Uncertainty Analysis with focus on chemical scientific assessments.
The course is provided as e-learning and includes three modules and a webinar. Each module includes a recorded presentation, a quiz and a discussion forum. Participants can study the modules in their own pace. The webinar at the end of the e-learning will give opportunity for discussion of the content of the modules.
Module 1: Key concepts and principles for uncertainty analysis
The first module will introduce key concepts and principles for uncertainty analysis, illustrated by an example. It will also discuss why EFSA’s guidance recommends using probability to quantify the overall uncertainty of conclusions, and what to do when this is difficult or firm conclusions are required.
Module 2: Basic uncertainty analysis
The second module will describe in more detail the methods and options for basic uncertainty analysis, where all uncertainties are considered together at the end of the assessment, illustrated by an example. Particular attention will be paid to options for adapting uncertainty analysis to the time and resources available.
Module 3: Refined uncertainty analysis
The second module will describe methods and options for refined assessment of uncertainty, where some uncertainties are quantified and combined separately before assessing overall uncertainty, illustrated by an example. It will end by discussing the reporting and communication of uncertainty analysis.
EFSA’s Scientific Committee/Panels, their working groups, members of the EFSA Networks and EFSA staff apply here.
EFSA reserves the right to select the participants from all applicants. All applicants will be informed whether they can actually attend the training.
