ESTRID receives new fundig from FORTE

Sofia Carlsson, principal investigator in the ESTRID study, has been granted 5 230 000 SEK from FORTE (Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare) for the project “Risk factors for LADA and type 2 diabetes, steps towards lifestyle precision medicine”.

The overall aim of the research project is to increase knowledge on risk factors for LADA as well as how genes and environment interact in the development of LADA and type 2 diabetes. The following research questions will be investigated within the project:

a) The risk of LADA in relation to lifestyle and environmental factors and how these interact with genetic factors associated with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

b) The risk of type 2 diabetes in relation to the interaction between lifestyle factors and genetic variants associated with type 2 diabetes.

c) The importance of sex, socioeconomic status and ethnicity in relation to these associations.
