Webinar Professor Arne Ljungqvists professorship in anti-doping

On May 31, 2021 Karolinska Institutet organized a webinar regarding the establishment of a professorship in anti-doping and public health, named after Professor Arne Ljungqvist, inaugurated by H.M. the Queen of Sweden and the President of KI Ole Petter Ottersen.

Webinar

The purpose of the webinar was to broadly raise the subject of doping as a public health issue from several perspectives including those of scientists, member of the Swedish parliament, the law enforcement and former a user. Furthermore, we wanted to take the opportunity to pay tribute to Professor Arne Ljungqvist, recently turned 90, who was also present in person.

By establishing the world's first multidisciplinary professorship in Anti-Doping and Public Health at Karolinska Institutet, we can create a unique platform for research and education in this field, thus providing more knowledge and evidence about doping and its consequences, both for the individual and for society. The professorship will also be heavily involved in developing preventive doping work, diagnostics and healthcare as well as providing expertise for legislation, nationally and internationally.

We are grateful for all forms of support and engagement as well as ideas and suggestions on how we can go from ambition to reality with this important initiative on anti-doping.

Together we can ensure that we take advantage of the excellent infrastructure that already exist at KI to combat the lack of knowledge and the health issues that exist around doping, both in sports and in society at large.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish further information on this important subject or to discuss the professor Arne Ljungqvist professorship in antidoping and public health at Karolinska Institutet.
