The two sides have reviewed the current operation and performance of the four Karolinska Institutet-Shandong University Collaborative Laboratories, which were established in 2014, and discussed the future actions and plans to strengthen the KI-SDU collaborations. KI delegation was also received by the vice governor of Shandong province Dr Shuilian Wang. Vice governor Wang briefed the new developments of the healthcare system in Shandong and the government’s plan to establish a new international medical center in Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province. Deputy vice-chancellor Masucci described KI’s productive collaborations with SDU, and expressed our interests in participation in the healthcare reform and internationalization of Shandong.

The 2-day KI-SDU joint symposium

The symposium was organized as four half-day sessions on the research themes of the four KI-SDU collaborative laboratories in cancer research, cardiovascular research, stem cell research, and global health studies. During the symposium, KI researchers gave 10 research lectures, while SDU colleagues made 14 lectures. The sessions were well attended, and have inspired interesting discussions for stronger and more efficient research collaborations between KI and SDU.
