Highlights from the webinar about the Professor Arne Ljungqvists profesorship in anti-doping

On May 31 2021 KI organized a webinar regarding the establishment of a profesorship in anti-doping, namned after Professor Arne Ljungqvist, world known champion in the fight against doping and the vice President of WADA.

The purpose of the webinar was to broadly raise the subject of doping as a public health issue from several perspectives including those of scientists, the police and former doping addicts. Furthermore, we wanted to take the opportunity to pay tribute to Professor Arne Ljungqvist, recently turned 90, who was also present in person.

By establishing the world's first professorship in Anti-Doping and Public Health at Karolinska Institutet, we can create a unique platform for research and education in this field, thus providing more knowledge and evidence about doping and its consequences, both for the individual and for society as a whole. The professorship will also be heavily involved in developing preventive doping work, diagnostics and healthcare as well as providing expertise for legislation, nationally and internationally.

We are grateful for all forms of support and engagement as well as ideas and suggestions on how we can go from ambition to reality with this important initiative on anti-doping.

Together we can ensure that we take advantage of the excellent infrastructure that already exist at KI to combat the lack of knowledge and the health issues that exist around doping, both in sports and in society at large.
