About the Division of Surgery and Oncology
The Division of Surgery and Oncology has 3 professors, 10 associate professors, 39 affiliated clinical researchers holding PhDs, 24 PhD students and 3 emeriti professors.
The Division of Surgery and Oncology also runs a laboratory, with basic and translational research activity focusing primarily on pancreatic cancer, but also on metabolism and inflammation in benign pancreatic diseases.
At the division, teaching also takes place at various levels, with the most comprehensive part being the 7th semester of the Karolinska Institutet MD program, the Clinical Surgery Course, which in total extends over 18 weeks with rotations in emergency surgery and elective upper gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary cancer surgery. In our teaching, an increasing proportion of so-called team-based learning (TBL) is used, but also conventional seminars, teaching rounds and lectures are held. Every other semester the course is given in English and open to international students.
The professional development education within the entire MD program at Karolinska Institutet is also based at the Division of Surgery and Oncology.
