The Osher Foundations
[2005-07-27] Karolinska Institutet has received a donation of SEK 50 million from the Bernard Osher Foundation and the Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation. The donation has financed the Osher Centre for Integrative Medicine, the purpose of which is to subject alternative therapies to conventional scientific evaluation.
The term “integrative medicine” refers to the integration of alternative therapies in western, science-based medicine. However, for this to happen, the therapies, such as acupuncture, healing, herbal medicine, naprapathy, chiropractics, massage therapy, diet therapy and – in the psychological domain – relaxation, meditation, hypnosis and various psychotherapies, must first undergo strict scientific evaluation. The health impact of lifestyle factors will be similarly assayed.
