Unit of Biostatistics – Matteo Bottai

We strives to contribute toward solving health problems and disseminating knowledge and culture of biostatistics at Karolinska Institute and worldwide. Post-graduate research supervision, teaching, and presentations to statistical and non-statistical audiences are an essential part of its mission.

The Unit of Biostatistics was established in 2010 at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Head of the unit is Matteo Bottai, professor in biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet.

Biostatistics plays a key role in all steps of public health research from designing new studies, to analyzing the data, and interpreting and disseminating scientific findings. The Unit of Biostatistics is actively involved in the development and application of statistical methods that may help improve each and every step and thus contribute toward solving health problems.

Biostatistics thrives in interdisciplinary collaborations, and the Unit of Biostatistics fosters collaboration with researchers in epidemiology, clinical research, and biological, social, and basic sciences. The research interests span a wide range that includes quantile inference, computational statistics, meta-analysis, survival data analysis, genetic statistics, longitudinal data analysis, causal inference, and asymptotic inference.

The Unit of Biostatistics strives to disseminate knowledge and culture of biostatistics domestically and internationally. Post-graduate research supervision, teaching, and presentations to statistical and non-statistical audiences are an essential part of its mission.

In line with its mission, the Unit of Biostatistics at IMM is responsible for the Biostatistics Core Facility. This was charted in 2012 thanks to the support by Stockholm County Council and Karolinska Institutet and provides statistical collaboration and support to medical and public health research.

Biostatistics Core Facility

The Biostatistics Core Facility provides biostatistical collaboration and support to medical and public health research. It aims to ensure that experimental designs, data analyses, and interpretation and dissemination of research findings take advantage of the most efficient and innovative methods in biostatistics.
