The Swedish Twin project of Disability pension and Sickness absence (STODS)
In the STODS project, the aim is to gain increased and more detailed knowledge about risk factors for receiving sick-leave benefits and disability pension, and about potential adverse outcomes of being sickness absent.
In most studies on sickness absence and disability pension one can question to what extent the results are related to selection mechanisms. Using twin data is one way to handle this and this is why we do several studies based on data from twins in combination with other national register data.

STODS is part of the infrastructure REWHARD, National infrastructure for research about social relations, work and health across the life course.
We collaborate with NorTwinDiSa – Nordic Twin study of Disability pension and Sickness absence
This network was established in 2012 and aims at promoting research collaboration and competence regarding sickness absence research using twin settings. Research teams from the following research settings are involved: Division of Insurance Medicine, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden (team leader: associate professor Pia Svedberg); Department of Public Health, University of Helsinki and Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH), Helsinki, Finland (team leader: associate professor Annina Ropponen, FIOH); University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark (team leader: professor Jacob von Bornemann Hjelmborg); and Division of Mental Health, Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI), Oslo, Norway (team leader: associate professor/senior researcher Ragnhild E. Ørstavik).
