At the department of physiology and pharmacology we teach and conduct research in pharmacology, physiology, anesthesiology and intensive care. We have around 350 employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students.
Hospitalization for surgery can lead to cognitive dysfunction in some patients. Niccolò Terrando (Lars I Eriksson's research group) and colleagues have in a current study shown that treatment with a single dose of aspirin-triggered resolvin D1 protected the brain from cognitive dysfunction after surgery.
QS World University Rankings by Subject has compared 700 universities worldwide and ranked them by subject. Karolinska Institutet distinguishes itself with a 4th place in pharmacology.
