Research description

High-throughput sequencing and genomics technologies are facilitating new possibilities in precision medicine. Sophisticated statistical and computational analysis of genomics data is required to make these methods work in practice. I aim to contribute to this field through bioinformatic and genomics analysis methods.

My research is focused on understanding the role of the genome in complex disease and cancer. Currently, I am analysing how genetic variation can disrupt the regulation of genes resulting in disease predisposition. To achieve this, I use computational methods to jointly analyse functional genomics data alongside genetic associations for individual diseases, focusing on prostate cancer. This research has the potential to improve clinical care through:

  • Improved prediction of disease risk
  • Discovery of molecular biomarkers for aggressive disease
  • More efficient drug discovery
