About me

  • In 1996 I received my medical degree in medicine in Tabriz, Iran. After my
graduation I started to work in the field of public health where I among
other tasks was responsible for visiting patients and leading an expert group
for implementing vaccination-programs and assisting the pregnant women and
elderly that were in need of an increased care.
After spending seven years working in this field, I eagerly wanted pursue my
higher education. Hence, I started a full-time PhD project at the Department
of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institute year 2003.
My PhD project was within the field of cancer epidemiology investigating
    etiological aspects of gastroesophageal cancers.
After finishing my PhD studies, I continued as a postdoctoral researcher at
the Clinical Epidemiology Unit (KEP), the Department of Medicine, Solna. Ever
since I continued my work within the field of pharmacoepidemiology and cancer
    epidemiology.
At the moment I am working as senior researcher and team leader for the
research area “Cancer and drugs” at the Centre for Pharmacoepidemiology
(CPE), where I am responsible for various projects concerning cancer
treatments and those with cancer as the possible side effect of drugs. I am
involved in several ongoing international collaborative projects, mostly with
Nordic countries. I have also active projects in Iran. Currently we are
investigating risk factors for adverse pregnancy outcomes in northern Iran.
I really enjoy working as researcher. I believe that, although it is a small
piece of the puzzle, answering unresolved questions about risk factors
concerning different diseases and possible side effects of drugs is helpful
for both patients and clinicians. I prefer to spend my free time with my
    family.

Research

  • My research interests are in analytical pharmacoepidemiology mainly cancer
pharmacoepidemiology and etiology of some immune-mediated diseases such as
multiple sclerosis using methods including examination of associations with
comorbidity, including with cancer and pharmacological treatments. I am
trained as cancer epidemiologist and have been involved in
    pharmacoepidemiological projects since 2007.
I have been involved in several national and international
pharmacoepidemiological research projects using health registries and
clinical databases. My ongoing projects in the field of
pharmacoepidemiological concern possible risk of cancer associated with some
pharmacological treatments of diabetes, possible adverse effects of newly
approved drugs for lung cancer and chronic Idiopathic thrombocytopenic
    purpura.
