About me

  • I am a clinical PhD student, which means that I am combining research with
clinical work at the labour ward. I see a great value in this, as my
experiences and encounters with both colleagues and birthing women brings new
perspectives to my research. My PhD project concerns the use of medical
interventions during labour, mainly caesarean section and oxytocin, and
    supporting vaginal birth.
The research aim is to increase the knowledge about two frequently used
medical interventions in maternity care, and to evaluate implementation
strategies in the Swedish maternity care setting.

Research

  • Medical interventions during labour and birth are lifesaving when
appropriately used, but do also bring risks of adverse outcomes. Both
globally and in Sweden, the use of caesarean section and other medical
interventions vary. These variations needs further investigation and with
this project we want to investigate the potential impact of both clinical and
non-clinical factors, such as teamwork and organizational culture. The
project includes both quantitative and qualitative methods.
