About me

  • Professor and research group leader at the Immunology and Allergy Unit, Department of Medicine, Solna. I did my undergraduate studies (MSc) in Biology at Uppsala universitet. I received my PhD in Experimental Medicine from Karolinska Institutet (Center of Infectious Medicine) in 2004 and then did postdoctoral training at Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT, USA and Genentech, Inc., South San Francisco, CA, USA. I returned to Karolinska Institutet in 2010 as assistant professor supported by a Marie Curie/Vinnmer fellowship from Vinnova and a research grant for young investigators from the Swedish Research Council. Since 2014 I am a research group leader at the Department of Medicine Solna. I have received support from Karolinska Institutet including a salary grant as part of the KI career ladder and a six year senior research position funded by the Swedish Heart and Lung Foundation. I became associate professor (docent) in immunology in 2015 and full professor in translational immunology in 2024.

Research

  • The research in my group is focused on immune cells, in particular dendritic
    cells and monocytes and their role in infection and inflammation of the
    respiratory system in humans.
