China - Chinese University of Hong Kong

Karolinska Institutet and Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) entered into an agreement about short term doctoral education exchange in 2013. CUHK offers a short term student exchange program for hosting 1-2 doctoral students from KI each year. KI will receive 1-2 doctoral students from CUHK per year. The duration of the short term exchange of doctoral students will be from 1-6 months.
NEW: from the academic year 2016-17, the two selected KI students will each receive a travel grant for up to 10 000 SEK to cover the return flight in economy class. 

Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a top university of higher learning in Hong Kong, with a wide range of disciplines including Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Biology. CUHK has five focused research areas where Biomedical Science is one of them. CUHK was founded in 1963, as a Chinese university in the British colony of Hong Kong. After half a century of growth and development, CUHK have become a comprehensive research university, a regional leader with a global reputation. CUHK has eight faculties, where Faculty of Medicine is one as well as a Graduate School.

The Faculty of Medicine has developed its teaching, clinical practice and research and advancement of health sciences since its establishment at the University. Students receive first-class comprehensive training by means of five bachelor's and various postgraduate programmes offered by 19 teaching departments / schools / units. The MB ChB programme adopts a system-based integrated curriculum which emphasizes early clinical exposure and small-group teaching. Students in medicine, nursing and pharmacy are given hands-on clinical experience at the University's teaching hospital, the Prince of Wales Hospital.

Application and admission

Application documents are to be submitted to the home universities International Relations Unit. Students that come within already existing collaborations will be priorities in the selection. All applications should include confirmation from a CUHK/KI researcher stating that the researcher is willing to supervise the student during the student's stay at CUHK/KI. CUHK PIs and KI PIs should discuss the candidates' research proposals in advance.

  • Letter of invitation from the host supervisor
  • Letter of support by the KI supervisor including confirmation that there are funds allocated for the exchange and that the exchange is included in the individual study plan

For KI doctoral students, application period for the academic year 2016-207 is the 25 of April to 25 of May.

CUHK now offers free on-campus accommodation to inbound visiting students from KI during their stay at CUHK.
