The History of Anatomical Illustration - Free lecture and sandwich
Anna Lantz, Art Historian at The Hagströmer Medico-Historical Library, gives an introductory talk on the history of anatomical illustration.
The history of anatomical illustration provides an execptionally fascinating world of images. Andreas Vesalius (1541-1564) book Fabrica printed in 1543, is a watershed in that it completely surpasses the previous schematic medieval figures with vividly detailed images of the human body. The Fabrica is the first in a series of illustrated anatomical atlases, where the authors relentlessy tried to excel each other with anatomical knowledge and thought-provoking illustrations.
