This KICSNet Boot Camp is a great opportunity for potential life science industry and other non-academic professionals to pave their way to business success. The 3 step boot camp will cover aspects of networking your way outside academia from a very practical perspective.
What is the KICSNet Boot Camp about?
During the boot camp, 15 individuals will have a unique opportunity to attend an employer reception featuring a researcher elevator pitch competition and network space.
The aim is to facilitate dialogue between employers and researchers, followed by an elevator pitch competition where researchers will present the added value they offer to employers. Employers will judge the pitches, and the discussions will involve informal networking, plus real-time networking training by Mary-Rose Hoja.
Delivered by Business Networking Strategist Mary-Rose Hoja, and featuring recruitment specialists, key industry representatives and successful bioentrepreneurs, this boot camp will help participants develop their business know-how and connect them to established local networks.
Suited to doctoral students and postdocs, this boot camp is ideal for anyone looking to shift away from an academic career.
Step 1. Before Event Workshop
In our first workshop, you will learn practical tricks and techniques to prepare strategically for meeting important professional contacts face-to-face.
What we will do:
"Set the stage for meeting industry contacts face-to-face
"Develop your elevator pitch
"Prepare for Step 2 and the Elevator Pitch Competition
When: 28 May 2013, 10.00-12.00.
Where: Hall of Fame, Nobels väg 5, KI Solna
Requirements: Bring your current elevator pitch. We demand your full commitment to the program for all 3 steps.
Step 2. During Event Workshop
Leading on from Step 1. Before Event Workshop, Step 2 is in two parts. First, you will learn practical techniques to use at actual networking events you will attend. This will be followed by an elevator pitch competition where you as a researcher will present the added value you offer to industry employers. Employers will judge the pitches and the discussions will involve informal networking, with real-time networking training by Mary-Rose Hoja.
What we will do:
"Develop how to enter, hold, and exit conversations smoothly and strategically
"Attend an employer reception, including Researcher Elevator Pitch Competition and network space
"Set the stage for follow up and prepare for Step 3
When: 4 June 2013, 11.00-13.00. Lunch is included.
Where: Lecture hall Parker, Tomtebodavägen 18A, KI Solna.
Requirements: Bring your developed elevator pitch. Also bring business cards (FREE from vistaprint.se or very cheap from ki.se), order in good time). We demand your full commitment to the program for /all 3 steps.
Step 3. After Event Workshop
Building on our Step 2. During Event Workshop, in this workshop you will learn the mechanics of how to follow up after a meeting to develop your professional relationships.

"Train how to follow up effectively to develop connections

Requirements: Prepare to report on your feedback and progress since Step 2.
