Collaboration with China: Research

The KI-China research collaborations are increasing every year and include research activities with Chinese universities, hospitals and institutions covering a wide range of research areas.

The number of co-published publications have grown from less than 30 per year in year 2000 to over 150 in 2013. In 2013, KI co-published with over 50 Chinese universities and their hospitals.

Since all research is done at KIs 22 different departments, more information regarding specific projects can be found on the respective department’s web pages.

Shandong University

Among all of the universities that KI collaborates with in China, Shandong University is one that KI co-publishes the most with. It also has one of the largest KI-alumni associations outside of Sweden with more than 80 alumnus & friends.

China Scholarship Council

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) and Karolinska Institutet signed an agreement in August, 2015. The agreement entitles KI to receive up to 30 PhD students, 20 post-doc fellows, 5 visiting researchers, and 5 master degree students supported by CSC scholarships per year during 2016-2020. For more information see the KI-CSC main page

The Swedish Research Council Awarded Grants

In 2013 the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) launched two calls for research collaborations with China. In order for the researchers to apply for the grants, universities had to submit a China-strategy. This strategy is now the basis for the China-KI central collaborations and is an important strategic tool for future collaborations. KI was awarded two grants and are collaborating on a third project that also received funding.
