Laboratories for Chemical Biology Karolinska Institutet (LCBKI)

LCBKI is a core facility at Karolinska Institutet and a national infrastructure at SciLifeLab, which was established in 2010. Along with the Laboratories for Chemical Biology Umeå (LCBU), it is part of a national consortium for chemical biology research - Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS).

The facility comprises compound handling labs (hosting the SciLifeLab compound collection of about 200 000 molecules), screening labs (microtiter format liquid handling robotics, high content imaging equipment and a wide range of plate readers), and chemistry labs (equipment and instrumentation for organic chemistry synthesis and analysis).

The majority of the scientists at CBCS have extensive background from the pharmaceutical industry and solid experience in the development of assay development, assay screening and bioactive molecules.

Main services that LCBKI/CBCS offers are:

  • Assay development and screen formatting
  • Screening of small-molecule libraries
  • Development and optimisation of biochemical, phenotypic, cellular and high-content assays
  • High-throughput live cell imaging
  • Hit confirmation
  • Computational chemistry & modelling Medicinal chemistry consultation
  • Iterative chemical optimisation (“hit to probe”)
  • Physiochemical and pharmacokinetic profiling of compounds
  • Target deconvolution
