The Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health

​​​​​​​The Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health is based on the collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Makerere University in Uganda. The aim of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health is to develop capacity and mobilise actions to drive the agenda for sustainable health through capacity building activities, promoting networks and providing tools for action.

Advancing implementation of Agenda 2030

There is urgency for action to deliver and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Action needs to be based on sound data and robust collaborations based on trust, innovation and reciprocity. Karolinska Institutet and Makerere University have leveraged the long-standing partnership in research and education to be key players in advancing action and have established the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health. The Centre aims to investigate and promote new ways of operationalizing a holistic and sustainable take on health in the 21st century.

Based on a longstanding cooperation

Karolinska Institutet and Makerere University in Uganda have collaborated in a mutually beneficial cooperation since 2003, when the first formal agreement was signed. The exchange of students, teachers and collaboration in research has developed into more formal projects, for example a joint doctoral training. the collaboration has contributed to important research results within a vast area of health including for example occupational therapy and public health. Center of Excellence for Sustainable Health is founded on this breadth of experience and holistic perspective of health that the and on which it will further promote and develop. Core engagements

To meet the aims and objectives of the Centre, and drive the agenda for sustainable health, the activities implemented by the Centre can be divided under four core engagements:
1. Capacity development and Education
2. Tools and resources
3. Networks and partnerships
4. Research:

The activities are based on an online platform which includes a web portal and an e-learning platform.
