Key EU publications: Policy and Programmes
The European Commission has created several key policy and summary reports that of of great importance and steer the international, national and local work on the prevention of suicide and mental ill-health. On this page we have listed some of the key documents and the links to the document and relevant web pages.
European Pact for Mental health and Well-being 2008: EU High-Level Conference
The Pact brings together different stakeholders in the mental health area among them European institutions and Member States etc. and presents five priority areas. For each area the Pact proposes actions on which stakeholders and policymakers should act.

PAPER Together for Health:A Strategic Approach for the EU 2008-2013 (2007)
The Commissions White Paper aims to develop actions on environmental and socioeconomic factors affecting physical and mental health. The broad approach needed for prevention and action on depression and suicide is entirely consistent with this aim.
Green Paper : Improving the mental health of the population: Towards a strategy on mental health for the European union. Brussels 2005
The Green Paper launched an EU-wide consultation process between institutions and stakeholders on the mental health of the European population. The document aims for exchange between countries and coherence in actions in proposing an EU-strategy including the areas prosperity, solidarity and social justice, quality of life of citizens.
Thematic Consensus papers
Four Consensus papers, a set of Policy Briefs and a research paper on Stigma and Social Exclusion were prepared as background to the High Level Conference. The consensus paper development process aimed to include as many and as varied stakeholders in each area as possible. The process included 4 Thematic Expert meetings held in Luxembourg 2008.
