KI internal prioritisation processes for project proposals to the Sjöberg Foundation 2018

The Foundation will support a limited number of specific research projects of high quality in the cancer area. This year the Foundation invites applications concerning:

  • Research on lung cancer and pancreatic cancer.
  • Research on nursing and complementary treatment methods of cancer treatment.

The Medical Faculties have been invited to submit a limited number of pre-applications. To enable prioritisation of and support for the applications from KI, they will be subject to an internal prioritisation process.

Vårdforskningsstipendium - Reumatikerförbundet

Stöder forskning som har bidragit till att utveckla behandling eller metoder som fått, eller kan förväntas få, klinisk betydelse i vård och rehabilitering för personer med sjukdomar i rörelseorganen, exempelvis artrit, artros och långvarig smärta. Stipendiet omfattar SEK 25,000.

Vårdforskningsstipendium - Reumatikerförbundet

Forskarmånader för kliniskt verksamma - Cancerfonden

Avser att bereda möjlighet för cancerforskare med klinisk tjänstgöring inom medicinsk-, vård-, samhälls- och beteendevetenskaplig verksamhet att avsätta tid för forskning. Upp till SEK 74,400 kan tilldelas i lön per månad, för upp till tre månader, under högst tre år.

Forskarmånader för kliniskt verksamma - Cancerfonden 

Bidrag för planeringsgrupper- Cancerfonden

Syftar till att sammanföra forskargrupper och forskare med likartad metodologisk eller ämnesmässig tillhörighet, för att öka samarbete och informationsutbyte och att underlätta planering av flercenterstudier. Anslag kan sökas för ett till tre år.

Stöder forskningsprojekt inom alla former av cancerforskning, genom att tillhandahålla medel för driftkostnader, inköp av material och utrustning, samt till personal. Anslag uppgår till SEK 2.5 miljoner per år under upp till tre år, med ett utökat anslag värt mellan SEK 1m och SEK 5m.

Forskartjänst inom samspelet människa, teknik och organisation - Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten

Stöder en forskartjänst i ämnet människa, teknik och organisation med inriktning på strålsäkerhet, i syfte att uppnå en kompetensuppbyggnad inom området i Sverige. Bidragen är värda upp till SEK 1.2 miljoner per år, under tre år. Efter en utvärdering av de tre åren kan stöd beviljas för ytterligare tre år.

Stöder grundforskning och utvecklingsarbete rörande personer med varaktig fysisk rörelsenedsättning. Bidrag uppgår till SEK 300,000 per år.

Bidrag för forskning och utvecklingsarbete - Stiftelsen Sunnerdahls Handikappfond

Stöder samhällsvetenskaplig, pedagogisk och medicinsk forskning kring barn och ungdomar med funktionshinder. Dent totala budgeten uppgår till SEK 2 miljoner. Bidrag ges i regel till mellan tio till femton projekt och uppgår till SEK 200,000.

Sjöberg prize for cancer research - Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

Recognises scientists who have made major contributions to our knowledge about disease mechanisms, risk factors, or the treatment or prevention of cancer. The prize is worth USD 1 million, which may be divided between one or up to three recipients.

Grants Office Information Seminar: Upcoming Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions Individual Fellowships

MSCA-IF are postdoc fellowships. You can do a postdoc either within Europe with a 2-year fellowship, or outside Europe with a return phase to Europe with the 3-year fellowship.

Closing date: Call opens April 12th, deadline September 12th 2018.

In this information seminar we will introduce the different types of Individual Fellowships, provide information on the political aspects of the program and also present the support provided by Grants Office.

Invited speakers are Sweden’s National Contact Point for MSCA, Erik Litborn from VINNOVA, and KI Career Service’s Career Program Manager, Anethe Mansén.

ECCO pioneer award -- European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation, EUR

This aims to encourage and support innovative basic or clinical scientific research in the area of inflammatory bowel diseases across Europe. Projects must be new, original and not yet be launched. Eligible project groups must consist of at least two participating institutions from different countries. All project group applicants including the project coordinator and principal investigators of all participating institutions must be ECCO members at the time of application. The majority of the applicants must be from an ECCO member country, and all applications that include non-European participating institutions must justify the selection of this institution.

Grants are worth €250,000 each, for a duration of two years.

ECCO pioneer award -- European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation, EUR 

Partnership grant – infections and immunity -- Medical Research Council, GB

This provides core funds to support partnerships between diverse groupings of researchers, and can be used for infrastructure support, platform activities and for bringing together managed consortia or multidisciplinary collaborations.

The principal investigator must be based at a UK HEI, independent research organisation or government-funded organisation other than an MRC-funded unit or institute. Researchers based at an MRC institute and unit, or from overseas, may apply as co-applicants.

Funding is available for one to five years.

Partnership grant – infections and immunity -- Medical Research Council, GB 

Sinergia programme -- Swiss National Science Foundation, CH

This promotes interdisciplinary, collaborative and breakthrough research. Research proposals should integrate elements from two or more disciplines, be between two or more applicants and question and go beyond existing models, theories, doctrines, research approaches and methods.

No less than two and no more than four applicants may apply together. The legal representative must be based in Switzerland. If there are three or more applicants, one applicant may be based at a research institution outside Switzerland, if they can provide unique expertise.

Grants are worth between CHF 50,000 and CHF 3.2 million over one to four years.

Microbiology outreach prize -- Microbiology Society, GB

This recognises a microbiology outreach initiative. Typically these might be a project, organised and delivered by an individual or a team that effectively communicates a microbiological issue to the general public.

Nominees may be at any stage of their career. At least one example of the nominated outreach initiative should have been delivered in the two years preceding nomination.

The prize is worth £500.

Ita Askonas prize -- European Federation of Immunological Societies, EUR

This recognises female group leaders in immunology who have run an independent laboratory for a minimum of four and no more than eight years. Candidates must be female members of an EFIS-affiliated national society working in a European research institution. Nominations must be submitted by an EFIS member society.

The prize consists of a €20,000 cash award and travel support to attend the European congress of immunology.

Clinical fellowship -- European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology, EUR

This promotes the development of patient care, clinical management and clinical research in paediatric endocrinology through a training programme in a European clinical centre. Applicants must be trained in paediatrics or have started training in paediatric endocrinology. Host centres will be located in Europe. 

Short-term fellowships are for three months and long-term fellowships for six to 12 months, covering subsistence and reasonable travel costs.

These enable researchers to visit centres for clinical or diagnostic virology in Europe in order to learn special or new techniques that may benefit their future clinical or laboratory work.

Applicants should have a basic professional qualification in clinical or diagnostic virology, and be currently affiliated with a biomedical institution where they intend to return to after completing the traineeship. The head of the host laboratory should be an ESCV member.

Fellowships are worth up to €5,000 for a period of up to one year.

Affordable, Accessible, and Appealing: The Next Generation of Nutrition (Round 21) –Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The Challenge

We desire to advance innovative technologies to enhance the availability and accessibility of affordable, nutritious foods for low-income consumers, working within the key constraint that these innovations must be relevant to market-based food systems in low and middle-income countries. Overall, our target population is young women, mothers, and children from 6-23 months of age. Accordingly, the proposed technologies funded must not undermine exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months of life.

Affordable, Accessible, and Appealing: The Next Generation of Nutrition (Round 21) –Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation 

Pilot and Feasibility Awards- Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

These awards are for developing and testing new hypotheses and/or new methods, and supporting promising new investigators as they establish themselves in research areas relevant to cystic fibrosis. Information derived from such studies will hopefully lead to submission to other funding agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health. Proposed work must be hypothesis-driven and must reflect innovative approaches to critical questions in cystic fibrosis research.

Closing date: May 7 (Spring Cycle); December 3 (Fall Cycle) submitted online at proposalCENTRAL by 5 pm ET.

Pilot and Feasibility Awards- Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 

Pilot Research Grants –National Multiple Sclerosis Society

The Society funds high-risk pilot grants to quickly test novel ideas. Funding is provided for one year to test innovative, cutting-edge ideas or untested methods, and to gather sufficient preliminary data to apply for longer-term funding. We welcome applications for studies related to multiple sclerosis that may serve to advance our mission of stopping MS progression, restoring function and improving quality of life, and preventing MS. The Society supports fundamental as well as applied studies, non-clinical or clinical in nature, including projects in patient management, care and rehabilitation.

Closing date: Pre-application is due May 7 with full application on May 9, and Pre-application is due September 10 with full application on September 12, 2018.

PCSK9 Competitive Grant Program -Amgen

Amgen is delighted to announce the launch of the PCSK9 Competitive Grant Program, which will provide an opportunity for investigators from around the world to compete for individual grants of up to 200,000 USD for novel research proposals that seek to advance the understanding of PCSK9 and atherosclerosis.

The program is global in reach and is open to proposals from established and junior investigators (within 5 years of completion of training).

Research Grants – Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) seeks proposals for the MMRF 2018 Research Fellow Award Program, an initiative supporting researchers at the post-doctorate/medical fellow or junior faculty levels working under the supervision or guidance of a research mentor in the multiple myeloma field. The goal of this initiative is to help support young investigators to begin their studies in the field of multiple myeloma while advancing the understanding of myeloma disease biology, treatment and drug resistance. Proposals may request up to $75,000 for one (1) year.

Non-Pharmacological Interventions for Gait and Balance Disturbances - Michael J. Fox Foundation

MJFF will prioritize projects that aim to demonstrate proof of concept of methods, feasibility of use and reasonable merit to help gait and balance disturbance in Parkinson’s disease. Promising novel technologies must have at least a prototype available to test for proof of concept. Projects also may aim to analyze preliminary existing data around devices or programs. At the end of the proposed project period, technology or approach has the potential to be quickly integrated into patient care.

Closing date: Pre-Proposal Due on May 31, 2018 (5pm. US ET), Full Proposal due on August 20, 2018 ((5pm. US ET) by invitation only.
