"What does bone do?" Prof. Gerard Karsenty
Föreläsning av Prof. Gerard Karsenty, Genetics & Development Department, Columbia University, NY, US.
Work in the Karsenty lab focuses on identifying and understanding novel physiological functions of bone besides making bone. Prof. Karsenty´s work has led to identify endocrine functions of bone, modulating insulin secretion, glucose homeostasis, testosterone production and male fertility. Bone-secreted hormones also favor hippocampal development and cognition, and possibly contribute to adaptation to hostile environments.
