Title: “Transcriptional control of vertebrate neurogenesis by the proneural factor Ascl1”

Vertebrate neurogenesis is to large extent regulated by proneural transcription factors such as Ascl1 (aka mash1). According to the current model, Ascl1 promotes sequentially the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem/progenitor cells along the neuronal lineage, with the concomitant regulation of distinct sets of target genes. Various mechanisms must account for such temporal pattern. Here I will discuss our latest findings on the gene regulatory network of Ascl1, focusing on its interactions with the chromatin landscape, and with the Notch transcriptional program.
