PIM Marie-Claire Arrieta

Welcome to the first PIM (pediatric immunology, infection & inflammation) seminar! A new seminar series co-organized by the Dept. of Women’s and Children’s Health, unit of clinical pediatrics, Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab

Marie-Claire Arrieta Ph.D,
Assistant Professor at the Univeristy of Calgary and author of the bestselling book
Let Them Eat Dirt

Dr Arrieta studies the role of the intestinal microbiota and its role in the development of immune-mediated and metabolic diseases in children. Her team applies multiomic techniques in large-scale population-based studies in children. On the results she applies her training in mucosal immunology and physiology to answer mechanistic questions in animal models of diseases like IBD and asthma. Utilizing these tools her team plans to address the general question of how metabolites originating from early-life intestinal microbiota contribute to intestinal and extra-intestinal disease even later in life.
