International Clinical Postdoc grants

StratCan International Clinical Postdoc grants within cancer research were intended for MDs at the residency or post-residency levels (ST-tjänst eller tillsvidare tjänst som specialistläkare) holding a PhD degree, interested in going abroad for a postdoc.

About the Grant

The International Clinical Postdoc grants were announced for the first time in 2014. The call was open for employees at hospitals affiliated with Karolinska Institutet.

The grants amounted to 1 million SEK/year for 2 years. A minimum of 12 months was to be spent at a highly qualified laboratory outside Sweden and of the time spent in Sweden at least 80% was to be devoted to research. It was a prerequisite that the candidate was allowed leave of absence from his/her clinical position by the employer, confirmed by a letter of support from the Head of Department.

The first StratCan International Clinical Postdoc grant has was awarded to Tobias Nordström. Tobias aimed to conduct postdoctoral research work on “Future Prostate Cancer Testing” at the University of California (UCSF), San Francisco. His main supervisors at the receiving university was professors Matthew Cooperberg and John S. Witte, and at Karolinska Institutet prof. Henrik Grönberg.
