Reference Group for International Affairs
During 2016 the Reference Group for International Affairs (previously International Advisory Committee) was established with representatives from the departments. The reference group constitutes a channel for information about internationalization activities between the management and the departments.
Margaret Sällberg Chen, Department of Dental Medicine (Dentmed), is DDS, Associate Professor, Director of Doctoral Education at Dept of Dental Medicine (DENTMED). Her interest in internationalisation includes to promote and facilitate research and education related to oral health and dental medicine, for example facilitating PhD projects and bilateral programmes with international academic organisations and dental health providers. She has also experience in arranging MoU exchange and international visits in connection to KI DENTMED.
Xie Shaohua, Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK), is an Assistant Professor in Cancer Epidemiology working in the research group of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Department of Molecular medicine and Surgery. Shaohua Xie is a member of the Reference Group for International Affairs of Karolinska Institutet and has been mainly involved in alumni activities.
Bengt Fadeel, Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM), M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Medical Inflammation Research And was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences in 2012. He has been engaged in several EU-funded nanosafety projects in the past 10 years has served as co-chair of the cancer theme within the KI-Mayo Clinic collaborative platform during the past 5 years.
Maria Eriksson, Department of Biosciences and Nutrition (BioNut), is a senior researcher and leads her own research group at KI since 2003 and is a special volunteer at the National Institutes of Health i Bethesda, Maryland, US since 2010. For Maria internationalization at all kinds of different levels at KI is very important. At the RGI she represents the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition (BioNut), H2.
Anna Mia Ekström, Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS), has a combined clinical professorship in global infectious disease epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet (KI) and Karolinska University Hospital. She leads a research group and has spent the last 16 years leading a large number of international research projects mainly in sub-Saharan Africa aiming at more effective program implementation of HIV treatment and prevention, risk behaviours and health systems. Lately she also studies the interplay between HIV and non-communicable disease (NCDs) and works with population-based health and demographic surveillance sites in Africa. She is responsible for introducing global health in all study programmes at KI (KIs internationalisation Strategy goal 1).
Susanne Guidetti, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS), working as Senior lecturer at the Division of Occupational Therapy (OT) at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS). She is the International Coordinator of the OT Program and is the chairman of the joint International Committee on Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Nursing Program at NVS. The field of research is to develop complex rehabilitation interventions using technology as mobile phones, computers for persons who have had a stroke both in Uganda and in Sweden.
Francesca Chiodi, Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC), is Professor in Host-Parasite Interaction. She works on HIV, with focus on pathogenesis of adaptive immune responses. Research in her laboratory is conducted in cooperation with PhD students and scientists from several affected countries. Chiodi is a member of SIDA’s Research Council

Åsa Eriksson, Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) is the chairperson of the international committee at the psychology program at KI. Its main focus is the internationalization of the program including international exchange for teachers and students. During 2014 she did a Teaching Sabbatical at UCLA.

Shuai Tan, Department of Medicine, Solna (MedS) is a doctoral candidate working in an international research group of cardiovascular system such as platelets, atherosclerosis, and immunology such as T cells. Shuai is also one of the main members and leaders of KICSSA (Karolinska Instituet China Student Scholar Association) providing assistance to Chinese students and scholars in KI and Sweden. He keeps close touch with the Education Section of Embassy of P. R. China in Sweden, and other universities CSSA like KTH, SU, SSE.
