There is a wide range of Swedish courses available.
English may be the working language at research institutions and it may also be sufficient to use English in everyday life, since most Swedes are reasonably fluent in English. However, good Swedish skills facilitate the start of your new life in Sweden and you may find that learning Swedish will help you to integrate more easily.

Learn Swedish in Sweden
All doctoral students who are admitted to KI are offered to take one Swedish language course free of charge, regardless of their admission dates. In addition, the courses are open to prospective doctoral students; provided that admission is planned over the next six months and that they have an ongoing employment at KI. Courses are paid by the Board of Doctoral Education. Register at BBi Communication and choose either 'PhD student enrolled at KI' or 'R&D Trainee'. Please, note that this offer does not apply to postdocs or visiting doctoral students.
Staff, researchers, postdocs and doctoral students interested in additional courses are welcome to join. The course fee of 2 658 kr excluding VAT but including a book can be paid by the individual or the hosting department. Register with BBi Communication.
- Evening courses (90 minutes of weekly training for 10 weeks) starting from the weeks of January 22 and 29
- Intensive courses (4 half-days of Swedish language training) in February and March
- Intensive (start of the term) in August
Language@KI is a project by the International Committee at MF, where international students at KI can learn Swedish as it is spoken by swedes. More information on their Facebook page.
Folkuniversitetet, Medborgarskolan, Svenska Nu, Swedish for professionals offer Swedish language courses for individuals. You can study Swedish as a Foreign Language at Stockholm university. There are several recognised tests available that measure proficiency in the Swedish language.
Swedish for immigrants (SFI) provides knowledge of the Swedish language and Swedish society, free of charge. Municipalities have an obligation to offer SFI to newly arrived adult immigrants with a personal identity number. Check with your municipality:
