There is a variety of reasons for employment on a fixed-term/temporary basis. Laws, ordinances and collective agreements govern the rules. KI has an employment procedure that compiles the rules applicable to the employment of teachers and researchers.

Basis for fixed-term employment according to the Swedish Employment Protection Act (LAS)

  • Probationary employment
  • General fixed-term employment according to the relevant regulations  (ALVA) in the  Employment Protection Act
  • Substitutes
  • Seasonal work
  • Employment of persons 67 years of age or older

Basis for fixed-term employment according to the Employment Ordinance (AF)

  • Sporadic, brief periods

Basis for fixed-term employment according to the Higher Education Ordinance (HF)

  • Adjunct Professor
  • Visiting Professor
  • Assistant Professor/ Research associate
  • Doctoral studentship

Basis for fixed-term employment according to collective agreements

  • Postdoc
  • Adjunct Senior Lecturer/Adjunct Associate Professor
  • Adjunct lecturer
