Healthy participants for a study on brain iron

The study investigates the effects of iron on brain structure and function in healthy aging.

As a participant you will be tested 3 times now (baseline) and in 3 years (follow-up):

The studie includes

(1) Blood sampling from the arm at the Aging Research Center, Stockholm (30 minutes)

(2) Cognitive testing (memory) at the Aging Research Center (2 hours)

(3) Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the brain at Karolinska Hospital in Solna (3 hours)

Inclusion criteria

  • right-handed man or woman 40-79 years old (OBS! Preferably men)
  • absence of metal in the body (implant, pace-maker, metal splinters, etc)
  • absence of neurological or psychiatric disorders
  • no surgery of the head, heart, ears and eyes
  • absence of permanent makeup (e.g. eyebrows) or tattoos on the head
  • absence of claustrophobia
  • no current or previous substance abuse
  • Swedish as native language (or attended Swedish school)
  • no colorblind
  • no pregnant
