Evidence for Policy and Implementation – intensifying efforts to achieving health-related MDGs in four countries with developing economies
The main aim of the project is to create an evidence-based “think tank” (TT) for “Research to Policy and Implementation” in each country. These TTs will produce context-specific road maps for priorities, policy formulation and implementation and will focus on the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) no. 4, 5 and 6. The think tanks will specifically focus the “Know-Do” gap, i.e., to implement evidence-based knowledge in practice, and further identify gaps in knowledge and encourage innovations. The main focus of the activities will be people marginalized by poverty.
A consortium of leading Swedish global health-oriented institutions with complementing competences has been formed between Karolinska Institutet, Uppsala University, Umeå University, Nordic School of Public Health, Gothenburg University and Gapminder Foundation, Stockholm. These institutions have an extensive network of partner institutions in the seven countries with funding for specific projects. The project will fill this gap and create sustainable structures and processes to achieve the MDGs. The project aims to increase the national and regional capacity in Asia for making priorities for evidence, policy and implementation. This capacity will be created through active participation in the think tanks utilizing most effective methodology and combined with increased institutional capacity in all countries through south – south, and south – north collaboration
