About me
- Sirus Rabbani is a medical doctor and Ph.D. student in the Upper GI Surgery
group at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska
Institutet. In parallel with his medical studies, he pursued a PhD after
being granted partial funding from the Karolinska CSTP programme in mid-2018.
His research focuses on investigating the aetiology of oesophageal cancer,
especially the role of sex hormones.
Research
- Oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC) carries an extremely poor prognosis with an
overall 5-year survival lower than 20%. OAC is characterised by a strong and
largely unexplained male predominance. Our research is mainly investigating
the role of sex hormones on the incidence and prognosis of OAC.
