Ayesha De Costa is Associate professor and Universitets lektor at the Karolinska Institutet. She has been prinicipal investigator and coordinated multi country collaborations - randomised trials and non randomised studies in Asia and Africa. Ayesha has active research collaborations in from India, Uganda, South Africa, Sweden, Oman, the United Kingdom, China and Finland. She has taught a masters and doctoral level both in Sweden and internationally.

Area of research experience in global health: Pragmatic randomised trials, infectious diseases, epidemiology, maternal health, health systems. My research interests include iintervention research, both randomised and non randomised designs. In particular, I am interested in the conduct of pragmatic randomised trials in the area of public health, partticularly in the area of infectious disease. I have recently led the EU FP7 supported HIVIND trial that concluded in India. I am currently involved with the pragmatic randomized trials in South Africa and in Sweden. I also work with formative research leading up to the development of trial interventions. More specifically, I have an interest in mhealth interventions for public health. I also work with qualitative research in the area of health systems.
I am also involved in post graduate training and education. I lead the doctoral education program in global health at the Karolinska Institutet. I am coordinator for the Karolinska Institutet at the Swedish National Research School for global health. I teach on the masters program in Global health and have worked with the supervision of masters and doctoral students. I have an interest in blended learning in education
