New insights in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis
Professor Cesare Saltini, University of Florida
During his years at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, United States, he was one of pioneers to apply molecular techniques, immunology and human genetics to the field of diffuse parenchymal pulmonary disease in the very early days of translational medicine.
The elucidation of the fine mechanisms behind beryllium disease is among his contributions to respiratory medicine.
Prof Saltini was the chief of the Department of Respiratory Disease at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy. He was recently appointed Research Professor at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FI, United States.
