MEB seminar: Professor Corinna Bergelt
Title: Cancer survivorship: Rehabilitation and return to work after cancer
Speaker: Professor Corinna Bergelt, Head of Psycho oncological Research at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf
Abstract: For cancer survivors, return to work (RTW) is an important step in coping with the disease and returning to normal life. International reviews indicate that more than 60% of cancer patients return to work, although a substantial number reports decreased working ability. Based on the holistic approach of the bio-psycho-social model of the WHO rehabilitation aims at enabling patients to achieve optimal social integration. Thus, for working age cancer survivors, occupational issues are crucial in the rehabilitation process.
The seminar will give an overview of RTW issues in cancer survivors, describe the rehabilitation system in Germany and will then report and discuss recent research on work-related rehabilitation outcomes.
