Craig Wheelock at Karolinska Institutet’s Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics receives funding from the US National Institute of Health together with collaborators at Harvard Medical School.

The researchers at KI receive the grant of 526,000 USD for the project "Mechanistic insights into asthma pathogenesis through the integration of asthma genes, risk exposures, and metabolomics".

Asthma has a large public health impact and is the most common health-related cause of lost school and work days. In this project, the researchers will study potential mechanisms for asthma development in two biological pathways where asthma genes and prenatal vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acid supplementation supposedly operate to alter asthma risk.
