HIC seminar: Understanding Complex Problems in Healthcare – in theory and in practice
"Understanding Complex Problems in Healthcare – in theory and in practice" by Anna Thies, MFA/PhLic, Industrial designer, Clinical Innovation Fellow at KI & KTH, Senior Health Service Designer, the Center for Innovation, Karolinska University Hospital
In this seminar Thies will present her licentiate thesis titled Understanding Complex Problems in Healthcare by applying a free-flowing design practice, and briefly discuss how she now is applying this knowledge in her recent employment at the Center for Innovation at Karolinska University Hospital.
The lecture will discuss different types of design competence in the context of healthcare innovation, and specifically how certain types of design may be used for better understanding (rather than primarily focusing on solving) problems.
Not attempting to solve every problem that appears to be possible to solved, is an issue that Thies argues to be discussed far too little in healthcare development and innovation, since many solutions tend to pose new problems from a holistic point of view.
