Helena Skröder - Arsenic metabolism in children differs from that in adults
The susceptibility to arsenic toxicity varies markedly between individuals and populations. In adults, an inefficient arsenic metabolism (methylation through one-carbon metabolism) has been associated with increased risk of adverse health effects, but this has not been clearly shown for children. In order to clarify children’s metabolism of arsenic, we have assessed influencing factors such as gender, growth, arsenic exposure, and nutritional factors such as selenium, vitamin B12 and folate.
