Kazem Behbahani was born in Sweden but raised in the United States where he also completed his Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences. He had long since planned to attend the Toxicology programme at Karolinska Institutet, being drawn by its international focus and small groups of students as well as the reputation of the university itself. He states that the programme has exceeded his already high expectations after his first semester:
'The education is group work oriented, while still being challenging enough to keep everyone engaged. All the while I am reminded that there are several toxicological positions available once I have my degree.'
Every year, The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. This is something that Kazem has enjoyed being part of during his time here:
Standing in the Nobel Forum while the winners of the 2012 Nobel Prize of medicine were being announced, was a memorable moment and I really felt that I was part of one of the world's leading medical universities.
In the future, Kazem pictures himself with a PhD, working as a neurologist and he is certain that Karolinska Institutet will help him achieve that goal.
'Karolinska Institutet is a world renowned university involved with several prominent scientific studies. This fact will be a great advantage when competing for employment positions.'
