Collaboration in Uganda
Makerere University in Kampala is Karolinska Institutet's main partner in Uganda. There is collaboration on all levels, ranging from education to research activities and the establishment a Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health.

Awarded thesis investigates patterns of usage of contraceptives among young refugees in northern Uganda
The Swedish Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology annually awards the best doctoral thesis of the year. 2023 the award goes to Ritah Bakesiima, who completed her dissertation at the Department of Women's and Children's Health last year. Her research studies the barriers to contraception among adolescents, and enlightens the importance of peer counselling in increasing contraceptive uptake.

Workshop at KI strengthens collaboration in the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health
“This virtual centre does not need a physical building as it is based on friendship. We have gone through a pandemic and war, but nothing can stop us and that commitment is also part of sustainable health", said Professor Wanyenze, the Makerere University chairperson of the Centre of Excellence of Sustainable Health.

Interview with medical students from Uganda
Allan Bakesiga and Linda Atulinda are medical students at Makerere University in Uganda. They are currently doing an exchange at Karolinska Institutet through a collaboration between the two universities. It is one of the most comprehensive international collaborations at KI which has enabled students, researchers, and professors to do exchanges both ways for many years.
