PET Scan at BMIC

The BMIC core facility offers Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans with two different types of PET scanners.

PET Scan

PET images are always tomographic, meaning that PET scanner acquires 3D volumetric data.  A single set of 3D data is often referred to as a Static PET scan. Static images, as the name imply, gives information of the average uptake of radioactivity in the imaged region under a finite time; Hence, no information regarding the kinetics in that specific region can be extracted. Dynamic 3D PET (4D PET) acquisitions are performed to obtain time depended parameters needed for modelling of tissue kinetics.

PET Scanners at BMIC

At the BMIC we have two different PET scanners. The GE Discovery MI 5 PET/CT and the MultiScan™ LFER  150 (Large Field of view Extreme Resolution).

GE Discovery MI 5 PET/CT

The GE Discovery MI 5 PET/CT is a whole body PET system designed for increased field of view to enable exceptionally high sensitivity allowing AI, deep learning image reconstruction.
